I remember when I was a kid I would bite into a chocolate Easter Bunny hoping it was solid. It never was. Ever wondered why this Easter candy must-have is always hollow? According to one of the oldest chocolate bunny confectionaries, R.M. Palmer, there's a method to the madness and it’s a bit surprising: it's about dental health. "If you had a larger-size bunny and it was solid chocolate, it would be like a brick; you’d be breaking teeth," Mark Schlott, executive vice president of operations, explained. Hummm… I don’t know if I buy it, but ok.
People are a lot like chocolate Easter bunnies. Hollow is not what you want, but it's often what you get. We are born empty and needy. Sin has left us hollow and searching for something to fill us. This is where idolatry stems from. We attempt to pack our lives with all sorts of things in an effort to fill the painful void inside. Paul said God intentionally allows this that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Ac 17:27 The truth is, God makes Himself quite plain to us.
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. Ro 1:19–20 It is not at all difficult to know that there is a God and that He is the answer to our longing. What makes it difficult is our rebellious resistance to this truth. The question that is always hanging there is this; should I submit to God or can I find my own way to fill my emptiness? And often, our answer is, I will try this other thing first. And so there are a lot of hollow bunnies.
The answer is the Gospel. Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures… 1Co 15:3–4 Sin has left us hollow and chasing other things is just more sin. Repent of your sin and trust in what Christ has done for you on the cross - dying in your place the death you deserve, paying in full the price for your sin. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him… Col 2:9–10
So… humbly come to Him right now. Do not go elsewhere. Start becoming a solid bunny today.
